There are many colorful slang expressions in English that involve articles of clothing. These expressions are frequently heard in everyday conversations, even among native speakers of American English. Belt – A strong gulp of an alcoholic drink.

Hat off to someone – To express respect or admiration.
We should take our hats off to the healthcare workers for their dedication during the pandemic.(Devemos tirar o chapéu para os trabalhadores da saúde pela dedicação durante a pandemia.)

Smarty pants – An intellectual who shows off.
He always acts like a smarty pants in class, trying to impress the teacher with his answers.(Ele sempre age como um sabichão na aula, tentando impressionar o professor com suas respostas.)

In one’s shoes – In someone’s situation.
If I were in your shoes, I would definitely take the job offer. ( Se eu estivesse no seu lugar, eu definitivamente aceitaria a oferta de emprego.)

Up one’s sleeve – to have a secret plan
I’m sure she has something up her sleeve for the surprise party. (Tenho certeza de que ela tem algo em mente para a festa surpresa.)
